Where the Alto Lakes Club Week Goes After Kokopelli Closes for Winter

The Kokopelli clubhouse page now says "Closed for the 2026-2027 Winter Season," and below that, "Reopening April 1, 2027." On the fitness page, the outdoor pool has a matching notice. The October club calendar for Alto Lakes Golf & Country Club fills those gaps with standing events held inside the Alto clubhouse, at card tables, on a line-dance floor and in a dining room with fireside seating. That clubhouse calendar carries the club week until the next big seasonal event, Ski Apache's targeted November 28 opening.

The Closures Sit at the Edges

Kokopelli is the sister club's clubhouse, and the outdoor pool is a summer amenity. Neither one anchors an ordinary club week. Most of the posted schedule belongs to the Alto clubhouse.

The Kokopelli section of the main dining page hasn't fully caught up. Its header says closed until April 1, 2027, while a section lower down still reads "Kokopelli Clubhouse is Open for the Season!" and lists Friday-through-Wednesday hours. The dedicated Kokopelli page settles it on the closure.

The fitness side keeps going. Members with a FOB can get into the gym from 4am to midnight every day. The staffed hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 8am to 7pm, and the page lists Monday as closed. The indoor exercise pool stays in service, though the page gives no separate winter hours for it.

The Week the Alto Clubhouse Already Runs

The dining page lists four weekly events, and they give the club week its shape.

Day Standing event at the Alto clubhouse Posted time
Tuesday Alto Pasta Night 5–9pm
Friday Alto Happy Hour 4–5:30pm
Saturday Alto Prime Rib Night, plated 5–9pm
Sunday Alto Sunday Brunch 8am–2pm

The October calendar adds themed nights around those four: Western BBQ Night, Seafood Special Night, Wine & Dine Night, Soup & Pie Night, Asian Night with an Asian To-Go action station, and Burgers & Brews Night paired with Karaoke. On some weeks the calendar lists Saturday's dinner as a Prime Rib Buffet Night instead of the plated version.

The clubhouse has three rooms, and each suits a different kind of evening. The 7500 Lounge is the club's spot for the big game and casual lunches. The First Dining Room is set up for families and quieter meals. The small Fine Dining room is for anniversaries and wine dinners, and the club points to its "new fireplace seating" before you're seated. Reservations go through the Host Desk at 575-336-3130. Alto Take-Out has a daytime line, 575-336-3137, before 5pm and an evening line, 575-336-3134, after 5pm. The page says delivery is available on request, and it promises "we always have pizza."

The posted clubhouse schedule is still labeled "Summer Clubhouse Operating Hours." Under that heading, the Alto clubhouse runs Tuesday through Friday 11am to 9pm, Saturday 8am to 9pm and Sunday 8am to 7pm, and it's closed Monday. The club hasn't published winter hours yet, so the Host Desk is the place to confirm a given night.

The Tables That Never Needed Good Weather

The October calendar's social programming has no weather dependence. Here's what it lists:

  • Canasta and Doubles Canasta
  • Mahjongg
  • Bridge
  • Texas Hold'em
  • Mexican Train
  • Five Crowns
  • Trail Steppers Line Dancing
  • Alto Fiber Artists
  • Sunday NFL Ticket

These run on the same calendar as tournaments for the club's golf associations, including ALGA, AMGA, AL9GA and SCAGA. In October, the golf groups were also running the club's seasonal parties. ALGA put on both an ALGA Halloween and a "Christmas in October." The month also includes a Halloween Bash and a Halloween Pool Party.

The calendar reviewed for this post shows October only, so it doesn't confirm which of these continue into November and December. None of them needs a warm day or an open pool. The one confirmed November item so far is on the menus page, which lists "Thanksgiving To-Go 2026."

Golf Doesn't End on a Posted Date

On the membership page, Golf Membership includes "54 holes of golf available year-round." The golf page gives no winter closing date for either course. Current tee times run 7am to 5:30pm on The Alto, which is closed Mondays, and 7:30am to 5:30pm on The Outlaw, which is closed Tuesdays. Because the two courses close on different days, at least one tee sheet is open every day of the week.

The Clubhouse at Outlaw is still listed as "Open for the Season," with hours of Wednesday through Monday, 11am to 7pm. Its Snack Shack opens at 9am and closes depending on tee times. Like the Alto clubhouse hours, the Outlaw hours appear under the summer heading, so the posted schedule may change once the club switches to winter hours.

A Little Under Seven Weeks to November 28

Ski New Mexico's season preview, dated September 22, 2026, lists Ski Apache's 2026–27 opening date as November 28, 2026. That's 47 days from today. Ski Apache's own FAQ doesn't name a date. It says opening usually falls in late November, depending on snowfall and weather. For now, treat November 28 as the industry association's published target.

The same preview says the resort is watching "a potentially very strong El Niño" and that its Snowfactory remains a key tool for early-season snow. The Snowfactory uses cooling technology to make snow when outdoor temperatures are too warm for conventional snowmaking, and Ski Apache calls it one of two such units operating in the United States. The season-pass page puts snowmaking coverage at 33% of the mountain. On opening weekend, how much terrain is ready will depend on natural snowfall as well as on what the snowmaking can cover.

The Drive From Alto

Ski Apache's directions run from NM 48 onto NM 532, Ski Run Road, for the final 11 miles to the resort. The resort's conditions panel last showed the road as "OPEN Road Work in Progress," stamped September 6, 2026. That's the latest notice available, and it may change before the lifts start. For guests without a car, the resort lists a shuttle from Inn of the Mountain Gods at $40 per person round trip, by reservation.

The Pass Math, Measured in Days

Ski Apache prices its 2026/2027 season pass at $750 for ages 6 to 54, $700 for seniors 55 to 69 and for military and college skiers, and $250 for skiers 70 and over. Here's how that compares with the 2026–27 day tickets:

Ticket, 2026–27 Adult full day Senior 55–69 full day Senior 70+ full day
Non-holiday, in person $175 $130 $72
Non-holiday, online or kiosk $165 $130 $72
Holiday, in person $195 $150 $72

At the $165 online adult rate, the $750 adult pass costs about the same as four and a half non-holiday days. At the $130 senior rate, the $700 pass works out to about five and a half days. The 70-plus math is the most generous. Their $250 pass equals about three and a half days at $72. Prices exclude tax and can change, and the resort advertises early-bird pass rates "for a limited time" without giving an end date.

Where the Mountain Calendar Meets the Club Calendar

The clubhouse calendar and the ski calendar overlap most around the holidays. Ski Apache's Free Kids Ticket covers children 12 and under skiing with a paying adult. It doesn't apply to season-pass purchasers, and it's blacked out December 19, 2026 through January 4, 2027, January 14 to 18, 2027, and February 11 to 15, 2027. Those blackout windows also fall when holiday pricing applies. The resort's FAQ describes the age cutoff as 13 and under, so families with a 13-year-old should confirm with Ski Apache before booking.

Passholders also get perks on the mountain itself, including 10% off rentals and 10% off food and beverages at Elk Lodge and Eagle Cafe, plus free parking all season. Back down NM 532 and NM 48, the Alto clubhouse's posted Saturday is Prime Rib Night from 5 to 9pm. The Kokopelli clubhouse reopens April 1, 2027.
